On Sunday, October 13th, 2013 I made my way out to West Philadelphia for the second weekend in a row to observe another legal wall being painted. I feel very fortunate that I was invited out to see this wall be painted, as I got to see some familiar faces in addition to meeting some new writers. The wall, located behind a bunch of houses in an alleyway is the perfect spot for a bunch of graffiti pieces to brighten things up.
The whole time I was there, I was simply astounded by how friendly and supportive members of that particular area of West Philadelphia were. The whole time I was there, there were people taking pictures, complimenting the writers, and even offering the writers the use of their supplies such as spray-paint and ladders. It was the perfect unification of artists and community; something the Mural Arts Program gets wrong occasionally, but that the graffiti writers seem to always get right when they do a piece wall.
As always, I want to give full and complete credit to the talented writers for the tremendous job they did. I would also like to thank them for inviting me out there, and for being so friendly and supportive of what I do here on LOLadelphia. In no particular order, I would like to thank: BARK, DEMO, SZ, KWES, BAE, SAAB, GASP, SOKA, AKNEW, REKER, PADAE, and KOE. Although he was not at this particular event on this day, I owe a thank you to KEECH for all he does to support and promote the site. Lastly, I’d like to send a shoutout to a photographer I met named Jeremiah who takes awesome pictures, and to each and every member of that community who took the time to embrace the artistic talent of these writers, and be so friendly and welcoming towards all of us.
Watch as this wall came to be what it is now after the jump:
